Question colt hbar match target

hey guys
i have a colt hbar match target i picked up on a trade a while back
556 1in7 twist with sear block and that funky front pivot screw that is almost impossible to find and has no hole for detent or spring
it doesent have a flash suppressor on it nor does it have threads my question is what size tap would i use to be able to mount a flash suppressor?
i shouldave miced the bbl first before posting but had the thought before i could dig it out
i would realy like to take it out to the range but the muzzle blast sucks!
any help would be great!
if i get a chance this weekend ill dig it out and mic it and post dimensions

You'd use a 1/2-28tpi die, although it would be best to cut the threads on a lathe.

Flash suppressor or a brake would make the blast more noticeable. Especially the 74 style, effective, but deafening.

isn't the match target the one Colt barrel that is not chrome lined? There are adapter pins for the front large take down pin. There is a straight pin with detent in the pin like an H&K take down pin. There are adapter pins that have a screw on each side but the center is offset and a smaller diameter to allow use of a small pin upper. You can buy large pin uppers. It might be just as cheap to replace your barrel and sell that one or buy / build a complete upper with a threaded barrel.

There's nothing wrong with the barrel you have. If you want a flash hider you may want a bayonet lug also.

hmm diddnt think about that i wanted somthing to reduce flash
dont mind the noise i allways wear hearing protection
this one has the small screw ft takedown pin i tried an adapter too big
the weapons new so the barrel is mint the previous owner bought it but never shot it i put at least 120 rds through it
a bayo lug would be cool i have a front sight assembly with one that was never drilled out for the pin i was gonna use for a project one day

You can find the 1-7 chrome lined colt h-bar barrels on gunbroker from time to time. I got a new take off one about a year ago for $140. They've of course gone up lately, but it may be cheaper and easier to sell your barrel and buy another colt barrel with the threaded end and bayonet lug. There are also people that will thread your barrel for $40-$50, but by the time you do that you might have more money in your barrel than if you just swapped it out.

Then you want a flash supressor the 74 style brake will just increase the seen muzzle flash.
Good idea on the hearing protection, whenever I see someone at the range without I feel bad as they always run out after anyone shoots something bigger than a 9x19. One kid got surprised with a mosin carbine, their choice to not wear hearing protection, the range officer asks if you have safety glasses and hearing protection before you're allowed on the range...
