Mount Front Sight on Handguard Rail

I've seen a couple of special front sights for mounting on hand guards/forearm and they're pretty expensive (no generic brands making them that i've seen) which leaves me wondering is there an easy fix for the elevation difference between the gas block rail and the hand guard rail. I'd like to just be able to buy a nice cheap Chinese gas block mounted front sight off ebay and still have it work on my hand guard. Looking for a CHEAP fix for this. I've found a few more front sights for forearm mounting but none cheaper than $80. I half tempted to try to cut down one of the chinese ones to make it work. Does anyone know the exact height difference between the forearm vs gasblock front sights?
