Kansas has joined with 13 other states in supporting Second Amendment rights before a federal appeals court, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced today.Schmidt added Kansas to a friend-of-the-court brief filed in the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va. The federal appellate court is reviewing a decision by a federal district court in Maryland that struck down a Maryland requirement that a citizen must affirmatively demonstrate a reason for carrying a firearm before being allowed to carry. In their recently filed brief, Kansas and other states asked the appeals court to uphold the lower court’s decision – thereby rejecting the effort to impose further requirements on law-abiding gun owners.
