Background-check backlog in Colorado gets no extra funding
Coloradans waiting a week or more for state background checks to buy firearms got no help from lawmakers Thursday, who rejected a request for more money to cut the backlog of applications. The Joint Budget Committee on a 4 2 vote rejected the Colorado Department of Public Safety's request for $455,784 to add 24 temporary staff, which would have helped cut a logjam in applications for the background checks that swelled to more than 12,000 by the end of December.
