Canada: The registry won't be missed
The federal Conservatives have tabled their long expected bill to scrap, once and for all, the long-gun registry. With Tory majorities firmly in place in both the House and Senate, the bill is expected to pass quickly. Good. Canadians have long since invested enough money, and far too much hope, in this ineffective, wrong headed database. The scrapping of the registry will have no impact on public safety and will begin to heal the divide between law enforcement and Canada's large community of lawful firearms owners. It also opens the door to further improvements to Canada's oppressive firearms laws, which wrongly treat citizens who happen to collect or responsibly use firearms as presumed threats to public safety.
