A year after its landmark ruling that the Second Amendment secures an individual, not collective, right to possess firearms, the Supreme Court signaled Wednesday it will accompany it with another historic decision -- whether that right applies to states and localities.

If states can regulate the 2nd, what stops them from the 1st, 5th, etc...

The 14th amendment. This lawsuit should extend that to the second as well.

The 14th was set up to block exactly this kind of behavior -- where a state says the Federal laws don't apply.

Of course it was directed towards the Southern states to prevent State laws restricting the rights of blacks (and to prevent the laws of due process from reimbursing slave holders for the loss of their property).
