Postak Hunting groups disputing warnings of lead in venison

Hunting groups say officials in Iowa, North Dakota and Minnesota overreacted by warning that thousands of pounds of venison given to food pantries could be contaminated by lead from bullets. "It's alarmist and not supported by any science," said Lawrence Keane, a vice president and lawyer for the Newton, Conn.-based National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry. "High quality protein is now taken out of the mouths of needy, hungry people."

Since I shoot and cast alot of bullets I have my lead levels checked when I have a physical. My lead levels have never been out of the range that is considered normal. I typically consume deer, rabbits, squirrels, turkey ect.. that have been taken with lead projectiles and have been doing so since I was just a little guy. Why haven't I, my hunting buddies or our forefathers been killed off from lead poisoning? This is just a poor attempt at making hunters and gun owners look bad and its backfireing.

They have the option of spittng the pellets or fragments out while eating the meat. Unfortunatly, they can not spit out the chlorine while drinking municipal water. These idiots need to be told to simply shut the f up.

UH I DONT EAT THE BLOODSHOOT HAMBURGER WERE THE BULLET WOULD BE FOUND. ANY ONE WHO HAS EVER CUT UP A DEER WOULD KNOW THAT ANY PLACE THAT A BULLET OR FRAGMENTS HAVE HIT WILL BE VERY OBVIOUS. DIFFERANT COLOR DAMAGE ECT. DONT EAT THAT PART!!!!! THIS IS A CASE OF LAWYERS BEING AFRAID OF GETTING SUED. MORE LIKELY TO DIE FROM BAD BEEF THAN LEAD POISENING FROM DEER MEAT!

Regarding bloodshot meat, no reputable processor will include bloodshot meat when any animal is butchered.

This smells more and more like PETA-inspired FUD than anything else.
