Legislation is being considered in Augusta by the Joint Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee that puts all gun owners in jeopardy. Tomorrow at 1:00 P.M. in Room 436 of the State House, committee members will be debating LD 386, introduced by state Representative Terry Morrison (D-South Portland). This misguided proposal authorizes a law enforcement officer to seize firearms from a person upon arrest for certain crimes of domestic violence, including: assault, criminal threatening, terrorizing, stalking, criminal mischief, obstructing the report of a crime or injury or reckless conduct if the officer reasonably believes that the person and the victim are family or household members.
