Postak Maryland State Police Seeking to Retool Ballistic Imaging Program!

The Maryland State Police have quietly drafted new regulations on the state?s ballistic imaging program, the Maryland Integrated Ballistics Identification System (MD-IBIS). Current regulations require that ?The pertinent data base be searchable for comparison purposes to shell casings from crime scenes for the purpose of identifying the source of these casings.? Hasnt this been in use for some time now in DC?? Or some other area/state here in Va area. I also read that inthe several years since its' inception, it has been used successfully LESS THAN 1% of the time in solving crimes. WASTE OF MONEY!!
My understanding is that pic of the shell casings are taken, then examined and compared to other on a database to narrow/pinpoint the murder weapon based on these casings left at the scene of a crime?
