House Bill 271 was approved by the state Senate last night, April 28, and will now go to Governor Brian Schweitzer for his consideration. Sponsored by state Representative Krayton Kerns (R-58), HB 271 simply says that the prohibition on concealed carry does not apply to âa person who is eligible to possess a handgun under state or federal law.â
You just got to love how they do it in Montana. The lawmakers there are from all walks of like, with many farmers and ranchers among them. The legislature meets only every other year and for only 90 days at that. This forces the legislators to work quickly and concentrate on what is important to the citizens. Also, these members can have meaningful employment in the real world. I recall that when the Fed's finally repealed Jimmy Carter's 55mph speed limit the speed limit in Montana was immediately changed because in a prior term the state legislature had raised the speed limit contingent on the Fed's repeal.
