HALLSVILLE - Missourians are doing more to protect themselves from burglaries and other crimes.
They're carrying concealed weapons, legally.
While Conceal and Carry instructor Tim Oliver takes aim at his target, his students are eyeing the calendar.
It's 40 days until Barack Obama's administration, and many Missourians are applying for a conceal and carry permit.
"Based on voting record and past statements, a lot of people feel that President-elect Obama is going to interfere with our gun rights," Oliver said.
Since the fall there's been an increase in these Conceal and Carry courses. Oliver has doubled the amount of classes he offers, and in those classes, the amount of students has also doubled.
About one in 20 Missourians have Conceal and Carry permits, which doesn't bother Columbia's top cop.
"That's not something that is counterproductive to us," Capt. Tom Dresner of the Columbia Police Department said.
New president or not, Oliver says his students have similiar motives when it comes to packing heat.
"When seconds count, help is only minutes away," Oliver said.
And they're taking his timely advice. Oliver says most of his students are women.

Of interest is the fact that the guy who manages that station is a friend of mine, and his pops sure shoots (including an AK47). And I could have told you that a lot of people here in MO were armed. And it is getting to be more so every day; slowly we are becoming one of the safest states in the union.
