I wonder how this will effect those that are in the military that try to legally bring back hunting rifles/shotguns bought in Germany, etc.....

sniper. It is a bit confusing reading that.
From what I could gather. No problem if the member states do not object too the transaction.
I would really doubt they would waste time on some kid, who buys a few guns while in the Military and legally ships them home.
But. It does not sound good for you guys with the Saiga.
Sounds like Obama would just have too object too their import and they will not be allowed in.
Maybe I am reading it wrong. But anytime they make these new rules, it is not good for the gun world.

Hey your back in the states. P.M. on the way with my cell. Give me a call.

rules like this affect me personally, but not really, a little change here

I am the only one I know of, who Is a
american citizen( resides in the US) and holds a euro firearms certificate(FAC). I have a Irish FAC, I am the only american who has a Irish FAC there maybe others, who have a euro fac's, germany, italy etc but I never met them or heard from them except for soliders serving oversea's
I can use the FAc to purchase, but I need to fillout seperate forms from the police, it must be locked and stored, I belong to a hunting & fishing club ( a must)

I own a beretta semi-auto 12 ga for sporting purposes, the rules are very strict. I can transport it though out europe but I always needed permission from the county of my destination ie Scotland/england for hunting, trap and skeet. so no real change here for me.

very similar to taking a handgun to NYC or NJ and have the proper documents

Question Sprat..

How does it work, if you want too go hunting in Europe, for us without that license.
Can we bring a weapon there?
Or do you have too rent one upon arrival?

Every country has different sets of rules, but the EU is trying standardize the process. I can only speak about the Republic of Ireland, (not Northern Ireland)
if you were going out for the day and have friends or relatives well borrowing maybe a option

first the only true hunting license is for deer on state owned land, everything else there is no license or orange safety clothing, also almost no game wardens, cause very few hunt.
but to possess a firearm & ammo in the field, one does need a Firearms certificate (FAC)
first you need to provide the police in advance by application that you have a hunting license here in america ( proof of training), second one needs to belong to a hunting & fishing club in Ireland, have 5 plus acres of hunting lands or a boat to hunt ducks, the owner must sign off on this. the FAC needs to be paid for with funds(Check) from a Irish Bank, also your firearms serial number needs to be on the FAC.
I renew for the upcoming year when I leave, so this is not for the average tourist, again you can go with a guide or a day or so trip without the Fac. they just changed the law so its not every years but every two years and more money

Yes you can bring your own gun but you must go through customs, both here and there and you must organize this well in advance, hassle hassle hassle

I go there every year for opening day for Pheasant and do ducks also, my best friend and landlord is a former Olympic shooter for Ireland. another friend is duck hunting guide on the shannon river. So this has been set up for me and I belong to a both a hunting skeet club and a fishing club( another friend runs this).
In the past I have been invited to hunt boar in germany, but I would use a weapon that belong to a german , using my fac, again this would be setup before I go
I have crossed a few borders with my shotgun, Scotland and Northern Ireland to hunt, very easy to do

I don't know about renting firearms, they are heavily regulated, if you know someone they MAY let you borrow one, I doubt it

if you have any questions feel free to ask

Thumbs up Sprat..

Thank you much. Good info...
You are pretty much on the money, with what sniper was telling me yesterday, when I spoke with him.
Germany, two locked safes, one for ammo one for the weapon.
Not too be rude. But I would bet the Duke of Windsor and his like, have all the weapons they desire.
The poor folk must follow the rules.
God I hope we never see that in America.
Thank you for the info.
