The plan calls for a regional interdiction approach to gun trafficking; more gun buyback programs and a program in which parents could give the police permission to search homes for guns; a requirement that pistols sold in New York include micro-stamping technology; a five-year renewal process for handgun permits; and support for a national gun-control strategy.

Another solution looking for a question!

Damn these people are stupid... So given the 19 MILLION people how many gun related homicides were there in New York?

889, of which more than 40% were committed WITHOUT a gun. So how are guns the problem here? 553 Homicides from 19 MILLION people and more than 1.2 million REGISTERED firearms, only 553 were used in homicides (including those committed by "public safety officers".)

So where is the problem? I don't see kitchen knives and baseball bats needing registration, yet they are responsible for nearly 1/2 the homicides, yet we go after firearms. Why?
