New York City: Marine's no-jail gun deal

The ex-Marine busted for trying to check his Indiana registered gun at the Empire State Building got a no jail, misdemeanor deal yesterday. "I definitely did not know it was illegal to bring a gun into New York City," Ryan Jerome, 29, of South Bend, said after pleading guilty in Manhattan Criminal Court, one day after nurse Meredith Graves agreed to a similar deal for trying to check her Tennessee registered gun at the 9/11 Memorial.

Damn I wish they'ed just get this reciprocity thing squared away once and for all, it's rediculous that each state has something different going on. For myself I don't know what the law for me would be? I'm from Vt and we need no permits, as it should be. But how does that effect my carrying somewhere else??? Does anybody know??? I may need to call BATF on this one, I don't have a clue. It's a concern to me as I live on Lake Champlain and usually carry a pistol when I'm arrowhead picking and pick both sides of the lake, both NY & Vt sides and it's way to cumbersome to carry a rifle/shotgun while picking. And where I go, it is generally loaded with water snakes and the occasional rabid coon or skunk. Anybody got any thoughts on this one?????
