In 2004, Ohio passed legislation that permitted Ohioans who met certain criteria to obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon. Since then, nearly 200,000 permits have been issued by county sheriffs across the state. Recently, members of the Senate approved Senate Bill 239, which seeks to update our concealed carry laws to make them more consistent with those of other states.There has been a great deal of misinformation associated with this legislation, and as one of the two key sponsors of SB 239, I want to take this opportunity to explain the changes proposed by the bill.
