An armed robber entered the Hometown Pantry convenience store in Springfield, Ill. and demanded cash from the two clerks behind the counter. While the criminal was reaching over the counter, one of the clerks retrieved a handgun and fired it, causing the criminal to flee. An investigation revealed that the clerk has a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card as required by Illinois law.This isn’t the first time the employees of Hometown Pantry have been forced to defend themselves. In July of 2011 a similar incident occurred, where a clerk used a handgun to scare off a shotgun-toting robber.
