In District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. However, federal law strips this right from law-abiding, responsible adults between the ages of 18 and 20, by prohibiting them from buying firearms other than rifles or shotguns through federally licensed firearm dealers.
