The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors are currently in the process of considering an unwarranted ordinance that would ban the discharge of firearms within 100 yards of any dwelling or occupied building. This ordinance, prepared at the request Chairman Butch Church, was not proposed as the result of any direct incident but rather stands as an example of a creating a law without cause or genuine purpose. It is currently illegal to discharge firearms anywhere in Roanoke County without lawful purpose, such as hunting, target shooting, or self-defense, so establishing an additional ordinance around an arbitrary distance is simply illogical and redundant.
