On Monday, January 17 at 4 p.m., the Virginia Senate Courts of Justice Criminal Subcommittee will hold a hearing on SB 876. Sponsored by Senator Richard Stuart (R-28), SB 876 would codify into statute a version of "castle doctrine" legislation and would allow a lawful occupant to use physical force, including deadly force, against an intruder in his dwelling who has committed an overt act against him, without civil liability.
