I cut a piece of sheetmetal to fill in the old trigger opening and welded it in, I also welded up the two leftover holes from the old TG. Sprayed it with some Brownells baking lacquer, then baked it.
While it was baking I addressed the hammer issue. Two things must be done. You need to grind the hump near the axis pin off and shorten the right side by about .060
I decided to do something I've never done before, use screws on a build. I Know, I Know. If the good Lord wanted screws on a AK, Mikhail would have put them there.
First, there is no load at all on the TG, the mag catch is totally independent. So even having 4 screws is overkill. I was originally planning to rivet, but I wasn't sure any of the bucking ideas I had would guarantee the quality of rivet job I would be pleased with
Besides there are a lot of parts in development for these things and I want to keep my options open.
I went with 4 stainless steel 6-32 button heads. I whipped up a little plate out of some .125 stock and threaded it. I also had to notch it to clear the cross mount block in the Saiga receiver.
Be sure to install the FCG and do a trial function check, before you put it all together with the bolt hold open. The BHO is a PITA to install, you don't want to have to do it twice.
I got mine all together and discovered that the selector needed to be trimmed slightly to correctly engage the G2 trigger.
I had originally planned to use a US made Galil forearm that I already had. But Scott (DPH) has a tri/quad rail forearm in the works. I didn't want to hack up a brand new Galil forearm and then decide to use one of Scott's forearms when they become available. Once modified to fit the Saiga, the Galil forearm could not be used on a AK.
So I stuck the stock one back on for the time being. I really don't care for it, so hopefully Scott's will be available soon.
Plus with the imported forearm I'm temporarily one part short on my 922r count. I'm OK with this US mag in it, But I can't use the factory Imported mag, until I add one more US part.
