Are you planning on doing any SG43 builds in the future?
Yes, I have 3 in house right now, there is a lot of preparation work to do before getting started. I need to make a weld jig and a few other tools first. then figure out the build sequence.
Hello Any ideas of what can be done with the demilled SG43 barrels with three holes drilled? Any replacement barrels available? Thanks
I bought a barrel from OOW & at $350.00 it cost more than the kit itself
Do they have anymore barrels left?
Hello IRONMULE,
Ohio Ordnance appears to be out of SG-43 barrels. I would rebuild the deactivated original barrel using a whole Moison-Nagant rifle barrel as an insert into a bored-out SG-43. The Red Chinese did this trick to convert many MG barrels after WW-II.
It would be well to tap and cork up the drilled holes (use permanent Loctite...) before boring the barrel for the insert. The insert must be thick wall to contain the pressure unlike the usual barrel liners which are paper thin.
The SG-43 barrel is bored out on a decent-sized lathe using a pilot nose drill bit of appropriate size with and extension silver-soldered on to reach the length.

Here's an old thread:

the only way to really repair one is to sleeve it. trying to plug the holes is asking for trouble. I know people have done it but it is not the right way to do it.
Hello Viper Dude and Pirate
Thanks for your advise, I see all the" like new" barrels drilled, it's a shame! Would anyone know if Century Arms Inc is selling the barrels, cuz they sell the semi SG43? I'll check up those forums about resleeving the barrel. Pirate keep us posted about building SG 43 Cheers ironmule
Only if they came in before the barrel ban was put into effect.Quote:
