Question Builders Question?

I'm going to repost this Thread. I didn't get much help from anybody late last night when I originally posted this. So, I'll give it a second try. I'm contemplating on another ak build. I think I'm gonna buy one of those Bulgarian Ak-47 under folder kits from Apex. I need to know what kind of Bulgarian Barrel do I need that will work on this build. I heard that various Bulgy Barrels only fit certain types of Aks. K-var has a barrel for sale but I'm not sure it will work with the build. I don't want to drop the change on a barrel, then to find out it won't work. Anybody got any advice? The Barrel preferably needs to be chrome linned and Bulgarian. I'm willing to make an exception for a US barrel if it is Chrome linned and Mill-spec. Any Ideas or Answers?

Need more details. Is the Apex kit a milled kit. Are you building a stamped or milled Rifle?

My bad. I'm going to use one of those underfolder Milled receivers from Dph arms. Do you have a better idea for the build? This will be my first milled receiver build.

Bulgarian milled AKs used threaded barrels, the DPH receivers are for pinned barrels (which is easier)..so you will need a European profile (not Yugo) pinned barrel. If the milled Bulgarian gas block and rear sight base doesn't fit the standard AKM barrel (I think it will), Apex has cheap Hungarian parts you could get and it would still look Bulgarian.

So, I could build it with a Romanian Barrel? How close would this barrel be compared to a Bulgy one? Is there any other parts that I would need to do this build? What kind of barrel do most guys use when trying to make this kind of build?

All of the factory milled receiver barrels are a larger diameters than AKM barrels. The rear sight blocks do not interchange. You might be able to use a complete AKM barrel and the rear sight block will be narrower than a milled receiver one. Also note that a milled receiver is 3.0 mm longer to the front (measured from say the hammer axis pin) than a stamped receiver. This may or may not cause an issue. The Bulgarian SLR-93 has a milled receiver profile pinned barrel. The Bulgarian SLR-95 and SLR-96 have a unique barrel with a rear milled receiver profile diameter with an AK-103 ' AK-74 forward profile.

I'm in the same boat as most here and are a little hesitant to giving an outright answer.

A milled receiver from one place, barrel less kit from another, barrel from somewhere else...

Is your rommie barrel complete? Or do you have to fit the bulgy parts on it? Will some one check that the interference between the receiver and barrel is a few thousands?
Are you trying for a milled gun or a Bulgarian milled? If the latter, you may be better off to try and buy an old milled kit with barrel.

Yes a Romanian barrel would work just fine, but the Romanians have a rather unique lightening hole in the front sight base that would give it away as a Romanian.

A virgin (not drilled for the barrel pin) barrel would be best. That way you can still use a 7mm barrel pin after you headspace and drill the barrel, but a previously drilled barrel will work, but you may need to use an 8mm barrel pin to get your headspace.
