With temps soaring to the upper 60s and with steady ~20-25 mph winds, I slipped out to the gun club.

I was really rushed as it was late afternoon and I had just finished my Saturday "chores".

I took both SGL-21 rifles out to break them in. I slapped on a couple butt pads (from Kalinkoptics) that added a little length.

I went to the lower range and set up on the 50 yd and 100 yd targets.

The SGL-21 76 functioned flawlessly (50 yd).

The SGL-21 61 functioned with a couple rounds that failed to cycle (determined to be a poorly fit magazine catch - 50 yd)

The SGL-21 76 functioned flawlessly again (though my tired old eyes didn't - 100 yd)

The SGL-21 61 let 'er rip firing fast as I could line up on target into the wind (100 yds)

Fired one shot from a PSL at the end of the day (stuck and removed casing) and failed to cycle next round (Russian Surplus). Maybe magazine related but only had the one with me and sun was setting fast.

Overall, was very satisfied with the SGL-21 rifles and may order up a couple more. I also have some additional "cheap" PSL mags coming in from Apex (can't seem to find my pouches with the extras right now - I gotta clean this place dammit)

Well they seem to work just fine, congrats.

Is the brass catcher yours or the range's? I like that.

Is the black tube your home built LAW launcher? Just kidding, thought it was funny at the time.

The catcher belongs to a friend who reloads .223 (note the Bushmaster on the near table). The black tube is a map case that I use for bringing targets and is convenient as Wyoming is known for its winds (like today).

nice looking rifles. I always wanted a sgl41. I stoped by the local gun shop and he had one for 379. Looks a little different the hand guard is longer and skinny and it does not have as nice of a choke. But otherwise the same gun. I wonder if you can get a mag to hold more than 4 shells? He also has a 12 guage for 519.

You can modify a Bulgy 74 5.45X39 bolt and bolt carrier to work for .223 build. Years back Ekie of the old AK-47.net forum described how to do it so you could have spare bolt and carrier for Romy SAR3 .223 rifles. I made one and after selling my SAR3 still had the spare. Used it to build a SAR3 clone on an NDS2 with a Bulgy .223 barrel and a Romy G trunion.

My question is pertinent to the 7.62 x 39 -- standard AK. Standing 5-11 I would get the NATO stock.

Any known problems with these rifles? My concern is not the $500 price (I've seen complete AK's sold now nearly double that), but what I would have to spend on the rifle once I own it.

Thanks much.

They do a decent job. Probably as good or better than a Romanian factory build with better furniture. Not hand massaged but for $500 not bad. Their finish is decent and they'll go bang when you pull the trigger.

Anyone want to trade a new WASR straight across for a new SGL-21 Russian/Bulgarian rifle ???

Looks like their prices are going up now. Only the SGL21-61 is still $499 now. The prices on the others are higher and the railed are back in stock but at a higher price as well. Looks like those who scored already came out ahead and when they said "temporary" I guess they really meant it. I have another SGL21-61 on the way and should be in tomorrow. Only got three but would have got another railed if the price was unchanged. Just glad to have got in on this while I could. Now I got to find me a J.O.B.
