Default Maadi vs Romy Quality

Want to buy a parts kit with cut barrel on Gunbroker for spare parts. Which is better quality, Maadi or Romy? Thank you very much in advance for any information.

I would have to say Romy. The Maadis that I've seen seem a bit more crude in their milling.

I am an amature, but if you are talking about a Romanian, Mine is real tight and well put together.

Quality, as in goes bang and hits approximately where it's aimed? Or, it can at least be "adjusted" to do so (the commercial Romanian canted barrel parts come to mind).

Almost all AK variants have the same generic reliability and accuracy. Either will do the job.

Quality, as in it looks "nice"?

Probably the Romanian has an edge there.

Maadi's have horribly thick paint on them. After a few years, when the paint begins to flake, they start to look awfull, even though underneath the machining is better quality than on the romy's, IMO.

My vote is for the Egyptians.

I happen to have one of each sitting here. They're not exactly the same, of course, but as far as workmanship there's not much to choose between them. The Maadi has a thick layer of paint over sandblast, while the Romanian is Parkerized. The front sight and gas block on the Romanian are probably investment cast; they look like they were machined from billet, tool marks and all, while they're obviously castings on the Maadi. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

When buying a parts kit, I guess I'd just buy whichever was cheapest/most complete/best condition, and not worry about which it was.

That's some pretty good advice, right there.

get a maadi if its an arm or rml inported by intrac or pars they were build on russian machines, probally the closed akm you can get to a real russian. as fas as the finish goes ye ait sux but you can always get it refinished.

stay away from any maadi misr's tho build with some cheap chinese parts.

imho romanians are bottom of the barrel so anything would be better.
