Default Mag catch jacked or bullet button sucks?

I just placed my bullet button (from Addax Tactical) on my mag catch and assembled it onto the receiver I'm in the process of building up (so I don't accidentally create an illegal combination of parts in the process of finishing the rifle). Long story short, it's impossible to insert a bullet into the hole and use it to release the magazine. Even if I install the bullet button off to one side so that the lever experiences maximum travel when the bullet is inserted (which just about destroys the bullet being used as a "tool"), the lever just doesn't travel enough to release the mag. The only way to get it to release is to install the bullet button very loosely, stick the bullet in behind the lever and then rotate the whole assembly to the other side. This isn't legal because the bullet button can be pushed off to the side exposing the release lever directly to your finger.

This makes me sad.

I take it your building a california gun?? you need to bend, cut, add, grind, weld, what ever it takes to make it work.

IMOO the bullet button is some thing that will likely eventualy get declared illeagle in california. Im a little leary of them for that reason. there not CDJ approved or dissaproved. Id rather have a build that has had a decision made on its legality rather one that is likley waiting to have one made.

Post some pictures of what you got going on.

Yeah, this is a gun for use in California... I'm fairly comfortable that they won't be declared illegal since they do create a situation which is explicitly allowed by law. In any case, I'm not a California resident so if that does happen, I will just remove the gun from the state, no big deal. What route do you go? Featureless?

I finally got it to work, but it still sucks. A screwdriver works better as a tool than a bullet, but it's still clumsy and my mag release is already really scratched up.

Find a brass rod that just fits the hole instead of the steel screwdriver. You could probable even keep one in the cleaning kit bullet in the buttstock of the rifle.

You'll probably end up dinging and bending the brass enough to need a new one, but that's better than beating up your mag catch.
