I'm a newbie. I am building a tactical AK from a MAK90 (link to first modification post: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ),
My current project is about adding a proper muzzle brake set-up to the MAK90. I pressed off the front sight post (FSP) and am drilling the FSP to accept a CHICOM detent spring and pin. The detent pin was supplied to me free of charge by ZETNICK ( member of this site/great american). ZETNICK sent me the complete FSP but I am all about original (maybe modified) equipment. I was origally going to use the received FSP on the rifle but instead, I am using it as a blueprint to drill my own FSP. I plan on pressing the original FSP back onto the rifle after adding the hole for the detent pin and spring to hold onto the muzzle brake.
I built the FSP/ gas block removal jig from a stop-sign post that was bent and left laying in my yard (courtesy of the city of Atoka). I modified a section of the stop-sign post to act as the jig. Surprisingly, the jig with the aid of a steering wheel puller removed the FSP without a scratch to the barrel or the FSP (that my friends is money in the bank). That jig and a 6 ton hydraulic jack will press the same FSP back onto the rifle, when the time comes.
I am in the process of stepping up the size of the drill bit used for making the detent hole in the FSP.
Check out the pics below for reference. More to follow (MTF). Peace!!
