I don't know what kind my open up drum is, but I like it, except I have to keep it away from the kids. They don't buy the ammunition.

The only thing to say about drums is store them "unwound". Not sure on that one but I think you have to store it unloaded. Helps the spring life as those "clock springs" can relax over time. The Chinese style drums are the ones you can unwind separately and keep it loaded but I'm not sure on this style.

The new Romanian drums, not the milsurp drums, are patterned similarly to the Chinese wind-up drums. They can be kept loaded, with no spring tension, and wound when ready to use.

Mine is nicely made, very similar to the Chinese in looks. It might use a bit lighter guage steel, but appears to be decently rugged.

The only strange thing about my drum is that I can easily fit 76 rounds into it through a slight manipulation once it's "full."
