Talking Build Your own.

Hell mine does sub 3 inch groups out to 700 yards.

Mine was built by Slamfire51. We have a guy on our sight, I think Flak,?? That does one hell of a great job also.
Take a Romy kit and let one of those guys do the work for you. Then get your reciever and put er together. You will be a happy camper cause this is my favorite AK. Shoot them with Golder Tiger ammo and it turns into a flame thrower.
I'm teasing yah about the 700. Hell I can't even see 100. Hell I can't even walk 100. I usually just shoot at the dirt.

Nice! You did a quality build and got quality results. You're right about knowing who built it, or building it yourself if you have the skills. It's the unknown factor of the quality of the Romy built gun that I guess I'm wondering about. Just like when manufacturers come out with a new pistol. I'd like to hear about it from actual users or be able to look up a track record before parting with my hard earned cash. The jury seems out on this particular pistol it seems.

I wouldn't personally worry at all about a Romanian built gun. A local dealer has sold lots of Romanian guns and never had any come back. It's the ones that are assembled here in this country that I would worry about. I also know of another dealer who had several of the early Century pistols come back because they were poorly assembled and wouldn't pick up cartridges out of the magazine. The finish on a Romy isn't real "nice", but they seem good mechanically. Just my opinion.

I dont know about the commercial built guns but I built one almost identical from a romy kit and it works great and is a kick in the pants to shoot. That beach ball size ball of flame that comes from the muzzle is unreal! I say buy it and have a blast with it. Take it to the range and you will get lots of attention. Mine is set up w/ a red dot and is very accurate.Have fun!

I bought 1 last yr. called a champion, they now are called draco? Same gun though, handles and shoots great only complaint i had was the mauzzle nut being welded, i took care of that and now it has a slant brake! They are 100% rom. made and i never heard of any problems, they sell for $600. at shows! They do not have a rear sling mount, but i put 1 on the side!
Get it,they are somewhat hard to find saw 1 of those champion pistols for $845. at a shop and about fainted!

Hope you get the one your looking for bud. Good these guys are giving you some tips.
Most everyone on the site has built there own weapons, so I think that is why it is a tough one to give an opinion on a store bought one.
Do you live near anyone that builds? Would be nice to build you own.
If you can spare the cash I would buy a shorty now. Buy through a local dealer near you.
Look at the price difference SLIMJIM is already talking about. Wow.
Got a strong feeling after this next election, oh God I don't want to think about it or ruin your post.
Either way, please let us know what you get and how it works out.
Welcome to Gunco.

Thanks guys for all the advice. 4thIDVet, you are right about the price differences. I've seen them from $500 up to $800 on gunbroker. That's what intrigued me the most was the price tag my shop had on them ($500). I'm with you on the availability issue as well, especially after November! To answer your question, I have built two romy kits myself with a little help from some local builders. They run fine. I do agree that the guns built here can have issues depending on who built them. If/when I pick one up, I'll post a range report. Again, thanks to all for your replies.

PS. I just remembered, that i did hear bout a few cases lately about the front sights being canted! So its best to closely examine each gun for the same things as a WASR!

Slimjim, thanks for your report. I tend to think that the romy built guns would run fine. The one I briefly looked at had the muzzle nut spot welded. Looked easy enough to remove, which I would do if I got one. I will check it out at the shop and look for the canted site problem. Glad you are enjoying yours. I've seen them at prices as high as $800 on gunbroker. I'm leaning towards getting one.
