Question What type of AK did this come from?

Got it from Kvar and all it says is Romanian. I'm using in on a project and it has a smaller inside diameter than a normal gas block, so my barrel has to be turned down a little.

I'm just wondering what the hell it came from? A Romy Krink in 5.45, maybe?

They come from the Romanian AIM carbine (Romanian short AK like a Krinkov with full sized handguards). They were made in 5.45x39 like this one and also 7.62x39. Some came with this front wood pistol grip lower handguard instead of the standard lower handguard as shown on this AIMS. (all pics courtesy of Stottman from his thead here... )

    Pics of the AIM carbine.......

Selector markings; This one has a 4 position trigger group with 3rd burst. Also notice the upturned carrier handle.

I wish I remembered what the measurement was? I don't feel like going down to the garage'shop to re-measure tonight. It's no big deal as it is going on a .223 barrel, so I have leeway to have it turned down. I talked to Hotbarrel and he said he could do it. I got the barrel stripped and ready to ship with the gas block for him.

Fargo, Thank you! That is a really cool little carbine.

An AMD-65 kit would be the perfect donor for building an AIM carbine in 7.62x39...

K-var use to offer just the front end of the AIM but that was a few years ago and I have yet to see K-var sell them again after they sold out. The Romanian AIM is a one rifle I would love to buy as a parts kit and the only one I would buy multiple parts kits. Now if K-var or some one would just import them.
