I emailed Azex about haveing an AKM receiver sand blasted for me since I dont have acess to a blaster myself. Derek said bring it by the shop and he could do it in a few minutes.

The next day I arrived at Dereks shop with receiver in hand. Derek had his assistant take it in the back and blast it. When he came back, the assistant, I asked Derek how much for the service. Derek told me no charge! I said no i'll give you something for it but he, Derek, insisted on not charging me anything for the shops time out and equipment usage.

That was really gracious of Derek doing that for me and I let him know it. Hell, I even got a tour of the shop and and got to fondle some of his Yugo SBR Krink builds. Good lawd almighty I had a woody that viagra couldnt compete with! It was pure heaven seeing all the parts kits and complete guns and tools all over the place.

Thank you Azex and Derek for taking time out for crazy ole me!

The man does good work; there's no denying that.

He put a new front sight base with flash hider on one of my AK's, then refinished it with DuraCoat.

You literally cannot tell that it's not a factory job.

I can't say that about any other gunsmithing I've ever had done with someone else.

On the tour of the shop I saw how meticulous the work is that goes into every thing that he does. His finish process is down right scarry in that its so clean and detailed like a fine watch. Even when I had my receiver blasted it came back looking like it had a nickle satin finish to it, it was that uniform. Somehow Im starting to think that Derek is a reincarnation of some old school German gunsmith from days gone where OCD and being anal in what you do to get perfection was the norm. Sadly thats a rare thing with todays gunbuilders.

He's actually pretty friendly on the phone.

His e-mails lean toward his gun board posts, but not as over the top.

I recommend anyone wanting to do business with him pick up the phone and realize that his internet personality is not the same one as you'll speak to in person.

To my knowledge Derek doesnt play in heavy metal band, but a mental picture of him dressed up like Gene Simons is pretty funny.
