Default Allthread barrel install kicks azz

Barrels installed using the allthread method. Who needs expensive tools.

It takes me longer to setup than to install the barrel.

Please explain, the front part is obvious but how are you setting up against the rear turnion and pulling it in?

I have a press but that's the hardest thing to do, it's a balancing act on a 3 point setup that flies apart several times before I get it moving.

I would much rather try your method for putting it back together.

I posted a library thread on the use of all thread a while back. It may help.

The only thing I would add is that instead of making a threaded peice to go on the trunion end, try using the bolt carrier and a nut.

Ozzy - do you turn the nut on the muzzle end or the one on the trunion end? It seems like the muzzle end might result in the barrel twisting and not going in straight relative to the site block, but it would be way easier to turn.

I think I'm gonna build a T shaped piece like the one in the AK-Builder barrel press kit, drill a hole in the middle, and run some all-thread through there. That seems like the easiest way to get a barrel in using all-thread while keeping the feed ramp safe from damage.

I turn the nut on the barrel end. To protect the barrel, I now put an AMD65 barrel extension and two washers on the muzzle end. You probably dont need the barrel extension, but it keeps from pressing on the muzzle. An AMD65 or Krink muzzle break would also work.

If the going gets tough, the muzzle end nut may gall and bind. At that point, the all thread starts threading into whatever you use at the trunnion end.

I really think using the carrier is better than using a block on the trunnion end. It places the pressure exactly where you need it. You may be worried that you will hurt the carrier. I really dont think you will, but that is your call of course.
