Birchwood Casey refinish kit

Used a Birchwood Casey reifinishing kit to restore the old 30 30. The process was good but the outcome was kind of red in color.

Anyone have similar results?

If I have a nice piece of walnut I use Tung Oil. I produces a deep rich color and brings out the grain. Six coats would be the minimum, a week at least between coats. It is really oil of the Tung tree. On a rifle with a birch laminated stock like a Boyd's or Richards I use I use Tru-Oil with the sealer. Tru-Oil is a polymerized linseed oil with other natural oils added. It will build-up as a finish unlike the raw or boiled linseed oils. You get a nice semi-gloss finish that is more durable for every day use. When my Timbersmith stock for the AK comes which is brown I will refinish it and stain darker brown this way. Should be neat. Thinking about fitting it with the steel butplate. Just me.

So
Walnet - Tung Oil
Birch - Tru-Oil

Any recommendations for other type of woods?
