I heard about it yesterday evening, but it does not mention the VZ 58's. ( built after 2006 and the VZ 58's are also prohibited ) It caught everyone by surprise including the politicians, there has been no announcement.
Seems like the RCMP consider they are a law unto themselves. I think it could well backfire on them, they have bitten off more than they can chew this time.

Conservatives have always stood up for law-abiding gun owners.
That’s why I was troubled to learn of a decision made by unelected bureaucrats to prohibit a number of rifles imported from Switzerland.
I want to assure you that I will not let law-abiding gun owners suffer as a result of this situation.
These now “prohibited” firearms had been classified as non-restricted for more than a decade. The RCMP has no idea how many of these rifles exist, and they have not announced any plan on how to deal with those who purchased these firearms lawfully.
I want to assure you all options are on the table to fix this situation. I will also be taking steps to make sure this never happens again.
The actions of these bureaucrats are absolutely unacceptable and I will be announcing concrete measures in the coming days.
Our Conservative Government is on your side — and we will always stand up for the rights of law-abiding firearms owners.
Thank you once again for your years of loyal support.
Now it's a matter of wait and see what happens next
Just called my MP in Ottawa and asked how the Conservative Government could let this happen. His reply " It was bureaucrats that did it not us " I asked "who is running the country, cause it's certainly not the Conservative Government." Silence :)
And here all along I thought you gentlemen up in the 'North Country' lived in a Utopia, eh?
Mick, in your country, just like ours, COPS THAT LIE MUST DIE. Bald Arrogant Prick..
R C M P Royal Canadian Mounted PUSSIES......Who would have thought?
It's early days yet, but it looks like the 858's and Swiss Arms black specials could soon be declared legal to own, despite the fact that (according to the RCMP ) they were once full automatics. I think this is a big deal, as what would apply to the 858's/Swiss Arms should in theory apply to everything else. That being the case I could legally reactivate my deactivated Bren. It would also open the gates to the importation of a vast array of military firearms presently unavailable.
I think the anti gun RCMP hierarchy just shot themselves in the foot.:)
PS, Converted automatics are presently prohibited.
