Default One of my Polish builds

    Select GT kit
    Hesse receiver

    Has been properly heattreated.

    Finished in Gunkote GUNMETAL BLUE

It has a NEW polish laminated set on it and a polish grip.

It was riveted and headspaced by jayson@IGF.

More details later.. I am alone with the kid...

    edited section below

I sent 4 kits to Jayson.
I paid $125 per kit and he riveted everything up, installed the barrel and headspaced it. I installed all the US PARTS in it.

I have a friend that live close to me that does my gunkote work.
He charged $100 to gunkote it. It would of been only $75 but the GUNMETAL BLUE color of gunkote requires more work. You have to buff it after baking it. That is why it is shiny.
I had it build about 4 or 5 months ago, and I just picked it up last week from getting refinished. I have fired 75 rounds out of it prior to refinishing it.

As far as stocks go, they all pretty much look the same as the one that is on the gun. I have not refinished the wood, it is exactly how they come.

Very nice looking gun you have there. I really like the look of the Polish laminate.

    Cool

DrugRunR, your rifle looks absolutely fantastic! The Gunkote gun metal blue finish is rather impressive. And the stock? Aw man, those Polish sets do more for me than the Russian laminate.

    I will go there......

IMHO polish sets are more "cost effective" then Russian sets.
Money wise if they are both taken care of, then they will increase in value with the russian set being worth more over time.

Egytian thumbhole cutdowns are pretty cost effective laminate solutions

I did not mean to cut on your Polish stock sets. They look wonderful. I just like the Soviet laminate a little better, but that is just opinion. I would pick the Polish as a very close second place in my order of preference.

Do the Polish have an oil finish? Whatever it is, it is probably more durable than shellac found on the Soviets.

No prob, we each have different preferences.

On the polish sets, the factory uses tung oil.

That is what I recommend that you put on it if you ever refinish a polish set.

Now I almost feel bad... :sorry:

I love the Russian stocks, with all the varieties I've seen on the 'net there are some beautiful matched sets out there. Something about the Polish laminate just grabs me though. I even like the Romanian laminate with the exception of the contour of the buttstock, I think that's where my preference for the Polish laminate lies.

My all-time favorite has to be the Chicom military shorty set with the original AK47 downward rake. Just plain mean as opposed to beautiful.

(got your reply to my PM Charles, thanks and I'll be back in touch soon)
