I am working down the same path. I purchased two torched former MG34 receivers with overlapping sections and am very interested in your build progress. I am moving to Yokosuka (recognize the pin) in January so my parts will sit in storage for two years while I dream of the build. Did the jig work out for you? I was thinking about a machined aluminum jig but yours is more simple.

The jig needs to be steel. aluminum has a very dofferent expansion rate than steel, and it needs to be very rigid to hold the parts securely to prevent shifting and warping. So far I am pleased with the results and it turned out to be an easier reweld than I thought.

It is on the back burner for a while, getting the receiver done was the biggest part of the project. I have a TNW semi so finishing this one is not a priority. Now that fn30 parts are available I want to do that build next plus I have several other projects in the works.

    Pirate,
Just wondering what type of welder you are using. How about the Rod?
Have read several different sources with different methods.
    Thanx,
    Throttle

I used a harbor freight TIG and a mild stainless rod, E301. The receiver is maleable iron so plain steel rod is not really good. It welded up easily and the welds finished out great.
