Default We need Saiga shotgun receivers!!!!

If it was not manufactured with a butt stock and is at least 26 inches overall the barrel length does not matter.

So you're potentially going to build an untaxed AOW based on a one letter? You know how those boys like to reverse themselves (too bad we can't hook'em up to a generator, we'd solve a lot of our power issues)

    Ballsy.

Cadiz Gun Works has what you're looking for.

i sure as hell would. the letter of the law is clear. The ATF was just compelled tp admit it. A shotgun is defined as being fired from the shoulder. Not fired from the shoulder and its not a shotgun. not much wiggle room there.

Don't you think if "the letter of the law" was so clear, manufacturers would have been offering these shorter-than-18"-bbl shotties before this letter came out?

Some manufacturers do employ folks from the job classification known as "lawyers" to do their legal eagling.

Perhaps youd like to point out in the law where a pistol grip shotgun is defined as being fired from the shoulder. You cant . The law is defined by not only the letter of the law but also by agency interpretation and case law. In this instance they are one and the same. The ATF has agreed with the law they are tasked to uphold. There is no drama here.

    You misunderstand me.

If this law is so clear, why haven't Mossberg, Remington, et al not been offering 26" OAL PGO shotties with sub-18" barrels?

It's not as if this law was just passed recently.

Maybe they don't employ someone as smart as our own chipmechanic here... so they have not asked the question.

Offhand, I can think of several reasons. Bad publicity is #1, arrests being made identifying the new "gangster weapon of choice" looks bad in the papers and on CBS. Look at the Black Talons, perfectly legal but caused a crapstorm back in the day. Quietly re-introduced under a more PC name and appearance, no problems.

1: Many states have their own laws that define SBS, unsuspecting owner drives from state A to B with one, instant felon if B defines it as an SBS. Also lowers the market for them and requires regular law checks of 50 states by sellers.

2: Even if legal, every cop in the land would take one look at it and arrest for having a "sawed off shotgun". Only later would serial # trace and ATF consultation identify it as a legal configuration.

3: Never seen one of the PG shotguns sold that couldn't be converted into a shoulder stocked arm with the simple addition of the original type stock. Someone, either through ignorance of the law or not caring would do so and get caught.

4: Sometimes a glaringly obvious "loophole" is not spotted and exploited right away. .

5: 12 guage has a bore over .50. Danger of getting declared a DD like the USAS12 and streetsweeper designs. 410 would be the only "safe" guage.

What's to stop you from using an AK blank or flat?
