    re staining and refinishing AK wood start
    striped paint using paint stripping gel

    hand guards paint removed

    You have Bulgarian AK 74 furniture there. It is often mismatched as shown in your pic.
    You can stain the lower to try for a match to the upper if you have any on hand stain products or TransTint etc.

    If you care for an original finish the Bulgarians used Amber Shellac. Readily available at Lowes etc.

    Yes you are correct.. it was painted brown... I stained it and used some gun stock finish on it.. I don't really have a plan.. it was just sitting around and I need something to do... It looks better than painted now..

    I need to get a good pic of it in the Sunlight.. it may need a little more sanding and another coat.. but it's better now

    Trueoil is a vary nice finish. I've had luck using 2 coats of wood sealer on top of that 2 coats of stain topping it of with 3 coats of Trueoil. Sanding with 200 grit before each coat.

    I went for the red color look on my Bulgarian AK74. I had to do a little bleaching of the handguard to get anything close to a match.

    This is two applications of stain followed by three coats of satin poly.
