Ok I have been doing a TON of research for an AK build in 9mm/x25 tok and have been trying to read everything available. From talking to other members and really looking at my options I've been trying to make the best decision as to which route to go...since I am a 1911 fanatic and love the .45acp more than 9mm I have decided to do a build in .45acp.
Also big thanks to KernelKrink who opened up the possibility to me by giving me the link's to Rhino 66's AK build in .45acp. I'm still finishing up the Saiga and building the Romy G so that will give me some time to do more research and collect the parts that I'll need for the .45acp build. I would also like to start reloading after these projects so although .45 is more money than 9mm and x25 tok I will make my savings by reloading it.
I am pretty much going to do it just like Rhino 66 did...with a few minor tweaks of my own such as a nonreciprocating charging handle and I'd like to use the Uzi front trunnion and be able to have a detachable barrel.
There's a few things I'm not equipped to do and wanted to know if someone here is able to do them:
1) Turn a .45acp 16" barrel to fit the Uzi trunnion if I provide all the parts needed ?? Also a gas block/front sight would be used, hopefully a Bulgy one if I can find one...
2) Does anyone know if there are AK flats available without the magwell and dimples in them ??? Worst case I can use one without the magwell cut out and hammer the dimples back out if I had to.
3) Is there anyone that would be able to bend the flat accordingly and if I provide the Uzi front trunnion and magwell be able to attach those as well ?? Or if there's someone in the PA area or even NY, NJ or Delaware that could help me with this I'd be more than willing to drive and pay for the help...I'm just not wquipped to do it all by myself.
I'm starting to account for all the parts I'll need, writting them down, but before I go and buy evertyhing I need to find some people who would be willing and able to help me with this. Rhino 66's thread is a HUGE help as he explains in detail and with pictures how exactly he made his work so if someone is capable of bending flats and TIG/MIG welding that would be enough to do most of this build I believe.
I also do not mind sending the stuff away for someone to work on if needed.
