    Default 450 BM

Havent contributed in a while. Trying to get a little assembly time this week and started my 450. I have had a big bore itch that needed to get scratched. I was going the 458 socom route but ammo is way too expensive for my cheap ass.

I had a bunch of spare parts laying around and needed to pickup a barrel and bolt to get this going. Franklin Aromry is the place for 450 parts if you are so inclined.

This is really no different than any other AR assembly. One exception is to open the ejection port to help get the monster case flying. For me it was an easy deal. DPMS slick side uppers are a snap with a Dremel carbide cutter and stone.

Got everything painted with desert tan duracoat and will snap a few pics when it dries

Duracoat done. The bolt should be here this week. Anyone have a gas tube laying around?

Interesting, wonder if the barrel extensions are different from a standard ar15?

I think they are the same. The only exception is the feed ramp is opened up but not enough to eliminate the the lower lugs.

Gents this is a serious budget big bore. Every part except the bolt and barrel is standard AR. The barrel was $179 and the bolt is $90. The rest of the parts are from where ever I could find the least expensive price. I am a cheap bastard. The upper and lower are cosmetic blems, the free float guard is used, the carrier is run of the mill milspec. I will be in this for just under $600

Thanks Smartbomb, I did some looking last fall at BM builds and found some reference to the extensions being a different steel than standard. If they're standard then a 444-1BG version just got a little cheaper

I need to call Franklin Armory in the morning to find out when the bolt will get shipped. I will ask if the extension is special.

When I was going the 458 route, I was told that bot the 458 and 450 had similar bolt thrust and sheer numbers as the 556. Seemed counter-intuitive but accepted the info as is
