The Saiga is imported as a sporting gun. Converting it usually means putting in another triggerpack without the linkage so you can have a pistolgrip ak handguards and stock. And putting in a bulletguide so you can use military magazines

There are many variations on Saiga conversions.
And there is getting to be a variety of handguards in the
aftermarket. I don't know about the need to change the bullet guide,
but Vicious describes the basic conversion. It's a fairly easy process.

I don't know about the need to change the bullet guide,
Most, if not all, the Saigas don't have a bullet guide. The design of the mag allow them to work without one, but military style mags need one.

They are decent out of the box, some of the triggers are funky though, rough or don't break very clean.
For a basic conversion you have to take off the trigger guard and the plate under it, it's just a couple rivets and I think one spot weld. Then put on (US parts for 922r) a standard stock (fits without mods), a pistol grip (need to cut the square hole for the nut or you get a trigger guard that has the grip mount on it), put in a US made trigger group. That's basicly it for a simple conversion, you can add other things but that's just personal preference.

Heres mine, you can use master molder mags without the bullet guide, but if you want to use metal mags you have to install one.

It's a Romanian push button, the button unlocks the stock, there's also the Polish ones that look the same but have a lever to unlock them. Both of these stocks fit the standard Saiga stock tang, so no mods are needed.
