Default Scope mount options for Mini 14's (Non-ranch)

My son has a Mini 14 that he wants to scope. Is it possible to drill and tap it? I have used a b-square in the past and it was ok, but many have had problems with them. I'd like to leave the rear site alone if possible. thanks.

i think there are some drill and tap style mounts for the mini-- i recall seeing um years ago.

they might be long out of production by today. i would check brownells or midway USA --they carry a lot of mini-14 stuff i think --

If you want to go with a scout rifle/forward mount type of set up, there are two pretty decent options. The only other option is that mickey mouse one that replaces the side cover.

Trade it off for a ranch style and save the aggravation, those side plate type suck and so do the B-square ones. I've had both and the Ranch style rifle one is the only way to go if you want a scope mounted on one,,,bar none.

The easiest without modifying the rifle is to go with a scout mount, I have the Amega and it's well made

AFAIK, ALL Ruger's current Mini 14 offerings have the "Ranch Rifle" integral scope mounts as standard equipment, has been that way for a few years now. 2005, IIRC. Cuts down parts inventory, only one basic receiver casting instead of 2. If you want a conventionally mounted scope trading off is about the only way you will be happy. The newer ones are supposed to be a bit more accurate as well.

Intensive internet searching has revealed that Leupold made one for the regular mini 14 that was drill and tap, but they are no longer in production. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/662...-mini-14-gloss Now the b-square I had on one years ago, I did something to make it solid, but I cant recall what. I think I may have added a screw thru the mount tapped into the receiver.

Thanks for the PM, Coils. I went ahead and ordered it. I think it should be just the ticket.
