This gun is not just a retro show off piece. It's lighter and easier handling than an M4gery, but the four inches of extra barrel makes a huge difference in reducing muzzle blast. If this had a 1-9 twist, it would be the perfect civilian expression of the Stoner concept. Even the pistol grip has it all over the A2. This is going to be my favorit rifle.
I like it. Mine has the later A1 stock on it and a colt 1-12" lightweight barrel I got from sarco years ago. It came wrapped up in gauze and beeswax with a silver cardboard tube in the barrel. I don't know if I got the luck of the draw or if they were all colts. You couldn't tell until you unwrapped it.
way back when CDNN was selling these uppers i picked up a couple. now i ain't gonna say what i paid--but rest assured it was peanuts compared to what they are selling for now.
i got one colt and one general motors "hydro-matic" upper with a TRW barrel. with 1-12" twist. a-1 type.
i think the colt got a $20 up charge.
these uppers came from when bill clinton gave away millions of m-16a1 to third world countries.
they promptly cut up the m-16 lowers then sold the uppers back to us as mil-surplus!
the irony is i may have got back one of the very uppers i trained some third world commandos with--lol
I have a FN made A1 barrel on a A2 upper, and I love it. It is accurate and very light. I am thinking of rebarreling it with a 1:8 twist so that I can shoot heavier bullets. It shoots SS109 OK as long as it isn't too cold so it is probably on the edge of stable. I also want to get a A1 length stock as I find the A2 length too long if wearing anything other than a shirt between me and the stock.
