Are SKS rifles regular blow back or is that a rod driven by gas on the top? I cleaned one up I picked up back in 1993. Old Chinese milled receiver. Chrome lined barrel.

This old thing has been locked up in there for almost 20 years. Pulled it out and cleaned out the COSMO today.

I've had several sks riles over the years. They are locked breach and the headspace is adjustable like a FAL, although I've never seen sks locking shoulders for sale. I've never had an issue with the tappet rusting, but the piston will if shot with corrosive ammo and left unattended. Enjoy your gun, they're still under rated to this day.

Amen! I used to buy the Romanian Cugir SKS rifles for dirt, rip them down, blue print and re-assemble them like you might do to a Mauser. Great rifles. The extra 4 " of barrel does make a big difference, along with the extra length of the gas system.

I am about to put 3 up for sale in original dress for $375 each. I am truly amazed at how expensive they have become.

All in all, they are worth the $300 - $400. But since they are not TactiCool, they are often overlooked. Knotheaded Mall Ninjas!

Yeap, this one was $89.00 back in 93. I picked up two. One got used for HOG clearing at a lease i hunted at back then. This one I just pulled out of the crawl of stuff in there today.

I gotta say, these old things seem quite able to handle it under the last run kind of thing if it comes to pass?

You are under it with all mags empty. Then, this one is behind the door where you are with 10 ready to go in it.

I used to buy them 200+ at a time back in the late 80's and early 90's. I can remember buying them for as little as $29.00 each in quantity. And these were the "new-old Stock" rifles that were built for the Socialist Revolutions around the world. At that time, I was buying Chinese 7.62x39 surplus by the case (1440 rounds) for less than $38.

Most of those rifles and ammo went to buying my first three houses.

My Brother has the very last one that I owned. He shoots it every week without fail. He wins bets by being able to hit 5 coffee can size targets at 400 yards with Iron Sights. This just pisses off the Mall Ninja's to no end. To date (for 2012) he has "won" $2200 or so. Not bad for a 40+ year old, $29.00 Rifle.

Regards,

BTW: MUSIBIKE, I want one or two of your Uzi's. I can't have them here in the PRK. But I still want them. Just sayin....

Yes SIR!

The extra Barrel length on these at the deer lease let me drop many HOGS everywhere.

I carried the other one of these back then when i could walk. Through all of that woods and back crawl over fences.

I would just happen up on MR & MRS HOG with a family of PIGGIES. I would drop them with the SKS then, use the UZI to lop the pigs one by one.

When I got off of that lease, the land owner still let me come out there to clear HOGS for the HELL of it. I was not a paid hunter.

By the looks of it though, one may consider what we are maybe about to be under soon here?

Spending an evening cleaning and running through memory lane with this old SKS was a treat for me.

Also , realizing what is in the cards.

GOD bless all of you in the days to come!

Hold your own and keep your wits about you.

CHEEERS!!!!

I love my sks's I've got one shooter and one safe queen . I really get decent groups with the one I have with the dragonov stock , bi-pod and cheapey 4xscope package on. 1 1/2 -2" groups all day long, close enough for that caliber gun,and I've rang some pretty long range gongs with it too,, which surprised me. I doubt it had much snot behind it when it got there,,,, but it hit!! 500 yards

I've seen and handled one of the SG bullpup stocks they have for them and I really like that set up allot. There really nicely made and hang nice, or should I say snuggle nice. But the price and lead time scared me off, they were 299-399 I can't remember and a 3-6 month waiting time after ordering one! WOW if it wasn't for that I'd have one. Check them out on line, pretty cool.

I'd never shot one just saw one and handled one at a show one time, but this one didn't seem to have that nasty, mushy, funky, trigger like most bullpups do. Anybody else seen or better yet shot one ? They look interesting.

I have to admit I love these rifles Ive got several. One in particular has had so much work that I could of bought 4 sks for what I spent on her. She will shoot 4" circles at 150 yds in the hands of a trained marksman with the right reloads. I know some of you say bullshit but if you spend close to $1K on one it shoots damn good. A FOOL WITH MONEY TO SPEND IS DANGEROUS! GunnerXXX
