There are several types, you would either be interested in a regular dealers (Type 1) or a C&R (Type 3).

The C&R is what is traditionally thought of as a "collector's license", it allows you to purchase from dealers and have them shipped direct to you, bypassing a local FFL for transfers. However, this only works for firearms on the federal C&R list. Most ads specify if a gun is C&R eligible or not. You are not a business, so selling other than the occasional gun from your collection is not allowed, IOW no ordering a Mauser "for a friend".

The regular dealers license lets you buy and sell any type of firearm (except NFA) but it is a business license. You have to have a legitimate business selling guns, gone are the days of the home dealer who works out of his kitchen. ATF requires you met zoning laws, fire codes, etc. to get a dealers FFL.

Both licenses are applied for the same way. Contact your local ATF field office and ask for the license application forms. Fill them out, get fingerprinted on the enclosed cards, and send back with a check for the fee.

    Default ffl

Thank you for the info,so it is not possible to get an ffl to use from home. That sucks,Id like to avoid gun shop prices for transfers of non c&r firearms,as usually that tacks a good bit o change to the purchase.

You can get a home FFL, but not in all areas, and you have to show that you have the proper safeguards for storing firearms. It is possible, just not easy.

    Cool ffl

Alright,I'll give the atf a call,I assume one would need a safe storage area, fire safety equipment, probably an alarm system, proper zoning, and a few others Im sure.zoning shouldnt be an issue because theres a few home ffl guys close in my area.Atleast theres a chance anyway.

If there are FFLs working out of their homes nearby, they would be the ones I would be asking about requirements in regards to local ordinances. They've already been through it.

I'm surprised you know " home FFL" guys in Ft. Pierce. I lived on the gulf sside for 20 years & no way in hell could you have ANY type of retail business in a residential area.Heck you could not even start a business on the " strip" unless approved by the council. If you came up with a great idea that looked a money maker...they would still deny you & before you knew what happened, one of their buddies would open the same business YOU thought of!!

Bunch of crooks on FL. city councils & county boards!!! Crooked sheriffs also.

    Question ffl

Yeah for sure Bradrock, but Ft.Pierce is a bit more old school,we are trying like hell to stay somewhat free, and keep out these big city gun hating folks, and keep them from destroying freedoms we have had for ever.Just tired of people traveling 1000+ miles just to tell us how to live.Anyway I suppose I'll talk with a local ffl guy.Try my luck.

Which ever you choose do it on the up and up and keep your log books accurate and up to date. The BATF can and will spot audit you from time to time.
If you want more gun control, use both hands.
