    Default XM177 clone project

Well I went and did it. I ordered the 11.5" barrel + extension + chrome lining from Blackthorne. Had to get something with my tax return so I decided to finally get a mouse gun. My brother the AR weenie is certainly going to have fun with the fact his AK-bro is getting a mouser! This is the kit I have on order... basically an "XM-177 E2" style:

Rifle Kit, 11.5, A2 : AK Parts kits, Superb Products

SO I am curious if anyone has experience with 11.5" barrels. I *hate* reading the AR mouse gun forums since "everyone is an expert" and don't want to get berated because every part isn't stamped "COLT" somewhere. ANYWAY... the limited reading I've done with the shorter Vietnam-era XM177's suggests that they "had problems" with the 10" which led to the 11.5" length.

This will be mostly a plinker, as I don't plan to run any competitions or anything similar. Reading, it appears the SEAL's and other SOF usage of the XM177 in Vietnam was "limited engagements" and not full-on shooting, what I would refer to as "front line fighting". So, in theory, I should not have any major malfunctions or expected issues. Don't plan to run C-Mag's or anything similar... don't know that I'll need to upgrade any of the internal components... ?

    Great reading on the subject:

Mine has been trouble free. But then I haven't let it get real good and dirty and tried it, so, kept clean mine runs great. Original XM177E2 in bottom pic.

Here's a website I used to get it "just right"!

Mines not 100% correct, but I think I got it close. One day I will get me a "retro" lower for it.

As to upgrading any internal components, I think its all the same. It is on mine anyway.
I read that the 11.5 bbl gives the bullet a little more dwell time in the bbl, and that enhances function.

I am considering pinning and welding golf ball and can launchers on a few toys to avoid the SBR paperwork and have a fun option to play with. Dummy grenades and launched objects can be more fun than lawn darts. That would also be a perfect candidate for a Sig Brace. It would look pretty close while avoiding the paperwork/waiting for the form 1.

I remember when sarco had demilled m-16 barrels for sale, these projects where real hot then, seems they cut the barrels just long enough for this project. I would assume the short barrel would not have enough travel for the projectile to perform properly
Sprat and sprat1 are one and the same.

The barrel port has to be right or you're over pressure and beating the shit out of your rifle or undersized and it's a jammamtic. Got lucky this time but I'm still putting in an h2 buffer in it.fun to fuck with the coyotes at night! LOL! Fireball from hell! Scared my wife. She thought I was setting the mountain on. Fire!!!!!
