Default German Frame SIG P229 - What kind of slide finish/coating?

I was looking a the finish on the older circa 1990's SIG P229 slides vs. the Nitron finish of the more modern SIG P229s and they are different.

Anyone know what kind of finish is on the slides of the German framed P229's ?

Its kind of a dark gray matte finish that is smooth and silky feeling to the touch. Reminds me kind of how the older USGI gray AR15 magazines are finished.

    thanks!

Is the slide SS? The frame on mine was made in Germany and the SS slide in NH.
