I met a guy years ago that did a 22-06. Aught six sounds better. Burned up barrels quick. Head shot at 500 was nothing but back then finding a bullet to stay together was hard to do. Heard the'yotes up here last night. Thought I had cleaned up the neighborhood.

I've heard the 25-06 is a good one. I'm sure though that he's gonna want easy to find off the shelf cartridges. 7mm mag? 7mm STW sounds good, but can you find those rounds at wally world?

25-06 is recognized cartridge. Would be a great choice. Velocity, range, availability. Win win win. Serious answer. Or a 500 Nitro with wheels and a crew for the joke. Seriously the 25-06 is the preferred cartridge for the beanfield shooters that want to stop anything bigger than a rodent.

    257 Weatherby mag shoots flatter than a 25-06 .
25-06 is no slouch however .

At 500 yards every thing is going to be dropping a fair amount.

    Why not just a 22-250 ?

Exactly biggun. Its all relative. Some states still demand something over 22 tho. Crazy to me.

Yup, it's got to be at least .30 caliber for deer here.

    I was talking coyotes with a 22-250

Lots of states are 243 or 6mm an up.
I did not know any were 30 cal an up.
That dont make a of sense .

257 Roberts was #3 in ammo sales for deer years ago an very capiable.

'yotes with a 22 mag marlin here. Its all relative. Rattlers or copperhead snakes with a machete or a 12 gauge. Follow the laws and ehhh? Don't get hurt is all.

As crazy as it sounds, you can deer hunt with any centerfire cartridge here. Pistols have to be a certain bbl length. So you could legally hunt deer with a 25 acp! From Arkansas Game and Fish Commission--
    Modern Gun
All modern guns may be used during modern gun deer season with the following exceptions. You may not use the following for deer:
    buckshot in a .410 shotgun.
shot smaller than No. 4 buckshot in any shotgun.
rimfire cartridges, military or full-metal jacketed ammunition.
any centerfire rifle or pistol smaller than .22 caliber.
handguns with barrels shorter than 4 inches.
    Air guns.
