    Default Tula TOZ-54 rescue

I didn't mean to buy anything, but I ran into this and saw the potential. Someone really fuckered it over with a rasp on the stock, and the bbl is bulged about 4" from the muzzle. It has surface rust spots all over, but the thing is tighter than dick's hatband. Just the kinda project that I like!
If I trim 4" from the bbl it will still have 24" of bbl. I may then have screw-in chokes installed. Or-Maybe an 18 1/4" coach gun will be it's fate. Anyhow, I probably gave too much at $190, but it should clean up with no more money spent.

Yeah that looks like a fun project indeed!

Cutting barrels - make sure that you remember the barrels are TAPERED and you'll need to square them based on centerline, not on the side of the barrel. My dad restored one where the original person did that very thing... you can see the noticeable taper on the end. Shoots fine, just looks obviously wrong.

Since the barrel was bulged, can you tell if the action works OK? Its tightness may be due to damage from the same event that caused the bulge, so I would check the working surfaces of the locking lug etc. for signs of stress.

A RASP to the stock? WOW...

Took it completely apart and glass beaded all but the bbl this weekend. No signs of damage or wear. I don't think it was actually shot very much. Had a few small pits here and there on the outside, nothing major. Took the bbl.'s down to 24 3/4"
