Well, today I spent most of my time playing Xbox with the family between coats of finish on some of my wood.
I must have put 8 coats of Tru-Oil on this stuff. These pieces are for an upcoming Suomi and a Yugo M70 AB2 build I plan on doing. I was going for the mirror type finish.
The prepping for this consisted of a complete finish strip, 3 hours of soaking in a highly concentrated bleach water mixture. I applied NO stain, I didnt want the wood too dark, I wanted it to naturally darken with the oil... and it did.
I am very happy with the outcome. I also tinkered with a blueing job on the Yugo front end. I still need to do some more scrubbing with some 'oo' wire pad but its coming along nicely.

Heres a reference pic of the Yugo wood before I started on it. It was nasty stained with years of dirt and grit and cosmo soaking, lol.

That arctic birch makes for a beautifull gun stock.

Are you using the felt pads and rottenstone with the Trueoil?

Actually, I just used one of my wifes old dishrags. I scrubbed the oil on vigorously as if I was sanding the wood (remember to go with the grain).
The drying time is considerably shorter with each coat. Right now the finish is just like glass.
