This is the latest from ABC affiliate, WISN radio and TV in Milwaukee:

"Five hunters were shot dead and three others injured after a dispute in northwestern Wisconsin. The confrontation began around noon Sunday in a rural area southwestern Sawyer County. Authorities said a hunting party returning to their deer shack saw a hunter unknown to them occupying one of their tree stands. They confronted the hunter, and were apparently shot. One of the shooting victims used a walkie talkie to radio back to their deer shack for help. When the victim's hunting partners came to the scene, they were also shot. Dead are four men and one woman. Sawyer County was in a virtual lockdown as authorities searched for the gunman. One suspect was eventually taken into custody around 5:15 p.m. Sunday. The suspect, Chia Vang, is being held in Sawyer County Jail. Cops say he used an assault rifle. Officials at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake said they treated three gunshot victims. One man is hospitalized in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Two other men had surgery at Lakeview Medical Center. Denny Drew, 55, is in serious condition. Lauren Hesebeck, 48, is in fair condition."

This is not going to benefit the large Hmong population here!

There is already a serious animosity toward them, caused by the younger men 's total disregard of Tresspass laws, Hunting rules, etc. Been kind of a Hmong generated mini-crime wave "up North" for about 10 years now.

DNR absolutely will not enforce game laws against them. Taking over someone elses deer stand, hunting shack, or trailer is not unknown. Responding with firearms and threats when confronted is also common.

This has been coming for a long time.

Most of the Hmong I've known (Hundreds actually) are wonderful people, but they are in a totally foreign culture. The older folks are at a loss and admit the young men are out of control, with Drugs, Dealing and Using,Robbery, etc. being common.

The other "media" are of course claiming the shooter used an "assault rifle"
(Probably an M1 Carbine, very popular with them.)

Hope this doesn't lead to anything else, but I'm afraid it might.

Personally hope the shooter tries to escape! It wouldn't work, but it would stop things from festering!

None of us really need S**t like this!

Cephus,

You're right it's insane!

Deer are a definite pest here, CWD or not the States overrun with them, I've got a couple in my yard every morning, and I live on the edge of a 24,000 pop city. Not as many "up North" though. Deer don't do well at all in deep woods, but the Southern half of the state is crawling with them. Lot of reasons for it but the DNR and their idiot regulations are a big part of the problem. IIRC our deer damage bill was over 2 billion dollars last year. We'll kill 5 or 600,000 before the hunting season is over, and have the same problems next year. Driving after dark here can be something of an adventure. No one in their right mind is going to argue over a deer.

Geraldo named the shooter as Hmong, and I'm not certain, but I think Vang is a Hmong surname (there are only 4 or 5) when I was working with a lot of Hmong, there were many VN also, so I'm not 100% certain. Wisconsin has a LOT of both.

There's been a festering problem here for years, the younger Hmong, (and many VN) guys are absolutely out of control. There is already a lot of ill will because of the break-ins (hunting cabins and summer cottages), the way they hunt, (permanent tree stands in public land, big no-no here) 30 to 50 guys crashing through the woods shooting at anything that moves (literally), driving their vehicles deep into vehicle prohibited areas, taking over other peoples stands, trailers and cabins. Then threatening the owners with firearms when confronted. I have had to chase them off my land in the central part of the state on a regular basis, I don't even go fishing without a .44 or a 1911. I don't have any buildings but in the last 7 years every one of my neighbors has had break-ins and theft, at least once a year, and two had their cabins burnt to the ground.

This is a Super-Socialist State, with all the crap that goes along with that.
The DNR (a serious bureauocracey here) simply will not do anything to enforce the laws against these "poor underpriveledged immigrants".

Good bet that this guy took over a stand, threatened the owners, tempers got hot and somebody moved wrong so he started shooting. No way he could get that many people unless he started shooting first.

Ther'es almost certain to be more trouble!

Damn shame this State has no Death Penalty!

But , on the other hand, he won't last very long in prison either.

Jeff Dohmer didn't!

Maybe he'll try to escape!

You are 100% correct of course, the anti's will have a field day with this!

Yeah, I hope these guys are dealt with so the jerks won't start yelling "hand them in." I think I remeber a saying, something about "prying my cold dead fingers"

Cephus, I can already taste the jerky.

"When Vang was arrested, he was carrying a high-powered SKS assault rifle and was out of ammunition, Zeigle said."

"Zeigle said a confrontation erupted and the man opened fire with his assault rifle."

"Semiautomatic rifles are legal and quite popular. Nearly all guns used in deer hunting are sporting arms. It's not common for hunters to use assault-style rifles because they're not often very accurate."

"One of the fatalities was female, authorities said."

Here we go again, the media and the assault rifle voo doo.

EDIT: They forgot to tell my SKS it ain't accurate.

This is the kind of stuff that creates huge problems.

We have a lot of hunters and shooters here at work but this shooting is the talk of the office among the women and people I know are antis.
